AMERICAN RED CROSS WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR - BLENDED LEARNING
The purpose of this course is to teach experienced swim instructors skills to improve stroke technique, class organization, and effective communication skills while instructing participants of all ages and levels in and around the water. In addition, this certification allows you to get employed and even promoted. Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them to swim, help children and adults refine their strokes, or teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
CANCELLATION POLICY
A $15 cancellation fee applies to all refunds or transfers. Requests for a refund or transfer within 5 days of the first class are prohibited.
PREREQUISITES
Must be 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills at a Swim Team level proficiency:
Front Crawl – 25 yards
Back Crawl
Breaststroke– 25 yards
Elementary Backstroke– 25 yards
Sidestroke– 25 yards
Butterfly– 15 yards
Perform a back float for 1 minute in deep water.
Tread water for 1 minute.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Successfully complete the pre-course Session.
Successfully perform all required skills.
Successfully complete class activities, including the required practice teaching assignments.
Score a minimum of 80 percent (40 correct answers out of 50 questions) on the final written exam
CERTIFICATION
Participants who successfully complete the Water Safety instructor course will be issued a
Water Safety Instructor certification that is valid for two years.
ONLINE CONTENT
The Water Safety Instructor course includes 12 online modules, which take approximately 6 hours to complete in total. Each module typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes. Online content will be sent to instructor candidates 10 days prior to the start of the class.
