The purpose of this course is to teach experienced swim instructors skills to improve stroke technique, class organization, and effective communication skills while instructing participants of all ages and levels in and around the water. In addition, this certification allows you to get employed and even promoted. Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them to swim, help children and adults refine their strokes or teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

CANCELLATION POLICY

- Transfers or refunds must be requested 5 business days prior to the start of the class.

- All refunds prior to those 5 business days will be subject to a $15.00 cancellation fee.

- Under no circumstances will a refund or transfer be granted within 5 business days of the course.

PREREQUISITES

1. Must be 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.

2. Must demonstrate swim proficiency by swimming 25-yards of the following strokes:

- Front Crawl

- Back Crawl

- Breaststroke

- Elementary backstroke

- Sidestroke

- Butterfly

3. Perform a back float for 1 minute in deep water

4. Tread water for 1 minute

CLASS DETAILS

- All classes will be at the Community Pool at CLU (100 Overton Court, Thousand Oaks, CA)

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

- Attend all class sessions

- Successfully perform all required skills

- Successfully complete 3 Teach Back sessions

- Pass the written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent or better on each section.

CERTIFICATION VALIDITY

- Authorization is for 2 calendar years.

- All authorizations expire on December 31 of each year.

- The initial authorization may be for less or more time depending on when training is completed.
