HOMESCHOOL SWIM TEAM
Meet other Home School families in our non-competitive Youth Swim Team! Our novice Swim Team provides structured workouts and stroke technique in a fun and team-oriented environment. The Home School Swim Team provides a structured and social setting for our local Home School families.
PLEASE NOTE: This class should not be taken by swimmers that do not know how to swim or are uncomfortable in the water.
PREREQUISITES: Swimmers must be proficient in the following to be eligible for the Swim Team:
1. Freestyle for 25 Yards - Child can demonstrate correct reaching arms, fast kicks, and side breathing, using streamline off the wall.
2. Backstroke for 25 Yards - Child can demonstrate correct straight arms, fast flutter kicks, using streamline off the wall.
3. Breaststroke for 25 Yards - Child can demonstrate correct breaststroke arms alternating with breaststroke kick (not scissor kick), breathing during the pull.
4. Butterfly Kick for 15 Yards (Dolphin Kick) - Child can kick with legs together, toes pointed, kicking from the hips (not the knees).
5. Tread Water for 1 Minute - Child can stay afloat using sculling arms, and legs keeping their head above water without touching the bottom or wall.
6. Demonstrate Tuck/Pike Surface Dive - Child can front float at surface then bring body into Tuck or Pike position with head down, and swim headfirst to the bottom.
Participants should expect to learn:
-Effective and efficient turns, starts, and finishes for all strokes.
-Stroke technique in the Butterfly, Back, Breast, and Freestyle strokes.
-How to effectively control your breathing and pace in a workout and race.
-Drills and swim sets tailored to individual levels and endurance.
-Introduces skills to improve stamina, confidence, and distance.
Swim Equipment: While some equipment is provided for swim workouts, participants are required to supply some of the equipment listed below on their own.
